What to do?

Norway  – the Great Outdoors!

Outdoor activities play a very important part in the lives of Norwegians, who are generally at their happiest at the cottage («hytte») in the mountains or on the banks of a fjord or the sea, boating, fishing, mountain and glacier hiking, bicycling, skiing, tobogganing, driving dog-teams or snowscooters, etc. – which makes us feel all the more deserving of good food and wine afterwards, preferably outdoors in summer, or by the fireplace in winter. Or beer, which, traditionally, is much appreciated in Norway, especially as a chaser to Aquavit.

Outdoor activities being such a major part of our culture, of who we are, it’s only natural to include one or more of them in your visit to Norway. Therefore, under each venue in our list, we’ve included suggestions for activities in the great outdoors, depending on local availability. Some of them are mentioned above.

Of course instruction is given wherever necessary, and in our experience foreign visitors just love the opportunity to sample a lifestyle so very different from their own.

For evening events, whether Banquets, Recitals or Theme Parties, historical buildings and other private venues are available in most venues.
